Pop Art Heart Nails

Hi there, welcome back to PlumeriaPainted!! With more nail art! Yeah I've been really busy, but isn't this the story of all of our lives. But there's been exams and I have masses of fun work to do, however I've finished half of my exams today so hopefully I'll be back in business soon :) Today's design is a simple one, but like most things I like it. I have to say this design translates way better in photos than in real life. I was not keen on this in real life, go the power of photography.

It's just a little cute heart pattern, but with an outline which makes it pop art. I think my favourite part of this design is the holographic glitter hahaha. No but I like the design in photos, it's simple and sweet.

The hearts were painted with toothpicks but cause the colours were too similar and basically I painted the hearts badly so I had to add an outline with my black pen. The spacing isn't totally right either but that's something I can overlook for this design.

Base: Etude House - #60 and Barry M - Fairy Lights
White: Barry M - Matt White and w7 - Lava Flow
Pink: Models Own - Radiant Pink
Light pink: Barry M - Strawberry Ice Cream with Per Una - Pink (no name) underneath
Black: Lovely Me:Ex - Black

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a nice day!! :)

The totally doable I have a life challenge! - Guilty pleasure = Hey Baby by DJ Ötzi

Hey guys, I'm still here doing the challenge. I'm also still here with a bunch of homework I'm procrastinating on. This is my life guys. You can't change me!! The prompt was guilty pleasure. Now I have a lot of guilty pleasures. Frankly the majority of my hobbies are guilty pleasures, whether it's gaming, reading or 1930's music I felt they didn't truly capture the essence of a guilty pleasure. That's why I've decided to pick a song that really is a guilty pleasure but I love it with all my heart. Guys, the guilty pleasure is real.

So I decided to create a design based on the feeling of the song. Which of course called for pop art. I think the explosion around the "Hey Baby!" really reflects the emotions in the song. There is an exclamation mark on my index finger to show that this "Hey Baby!" is exclaimed!! I wanted a more basic colour theme and I thought it was sweet. I do really love pop art cause it just looks really cool, edgy and bold.
But seriously Hey Baby is such a song. I first heard it when I was 5 and when I recently rediscovered it over the summer; now I can't help but belt it out all over the house. It's just that kind of song that needs to be spread to send out happy vibes. That "heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey" cannot be topped. Or the oohs and the ahhs haha. It's just a nice regard too; so many songs are about being too cool for people but this one is the opposite. It's willingly asking something that people think they are too above to ask. Let's not even start on the happiness the key change brings me. It's just great.

After some research I realise this song was a cover of a song in the 1960's and was the unofficial theme of the 2002 FIFA World Cup. It was also No. 1 in the UK, Ireland, Australia and Japan. That's pretty legit. If this song doesn't make you feel warm inside, then my friend you have a heart of stone ;)

I started with the shapes before putting the outlines on them. I think it was neater this way. I used a mixture of a brush and a toothpick. The writing was with a toothpick and that was hard. I did the little dots with bobby pins and that worked out pretty well.

Base: Essie - E-nuff Is E-nuff and OPI - Jinx
White: Barry M - Matt White
Yellow: Topshop - Naked and American Apparel - Neon Yellow
Black: Lovely Me:Ex - Black
Green: Barry M - Kiwi, Rimmel - Block Your Green! and Orly - Go Deeper (i.e. the saviour of the writing)
Blue: Revlon - Dreamer
Light Green: Etude House - Play 86
Shiny Blue: Rimmel - Azure
Orange: Rimmel - It's a Scorcher!
Medium Green: Illamasqua - Nomad
Dark Blue: H&M - Blue My Mind

Thank you so much for reading this long and I sound crazy post and I hope you have a lovely day!! :)

And then POP (art) goes my heart!!

Hello there you fantastic person!! I don't know if you get the title reference, it's from the movie "Music and Lyrics" that I watched AGES ago and didn't even finish. I do hope to finish it, I love a good chick flick. And on the note of chick flicks, and romance, here's my first Valentine's Day design (most awkward segue ever?). Everyone else seemed to be doing these designs last month but hahahaha as usual I'm late. Well Valentine's Day itself isn't late, but I have more Valentine's designs to come :/ But this design combines neon and pop art, 2 of my favourite things, obviously it was going to be love (see what I did there?).

Yep a pop art design with all my neons. It's a beautiful thing. My ring finger was inspired by Finger Painted then I went mental. From the pop art hearts to the explosions to the neon glitter. Neons make me unbelievably happy and all the colours... ^_^ I love those pop art dots in general and the whole design I feel comes together in a weird way.

I used my standard bobby pins, toothpicks and nail polish brushes for this look. I dabbed/brushed on Clowning Around, a bit hard to get an even distribution especially of all the glitter colours. But worth it in the end.

White: Barry M - Matt White
Neon Glitter: Lush Lacquer - Clowning Around
Yes this polish continues to bleed :'( but that can't stop it's beauty. I don't think anything can.
Pink: Nails Inc - Notting Hill Gate
Light Pink: Barry M - Superdrug Summer 2013 A
Orange: Models Own - Beach Party
Green: China Glaze - I'm With The Lifeguard
Blue: Nails Inc - Baker Street
Black: Lovely Me:Ex - Black

Thank you very much for reading and I hope you have a lovely (;)) Valentine's day!! :)

Neon + Christmas Pop Art

Hello there fine folks!! The week is winding down and it's almost Christmas!!! :D :D :D I never knew December would be so crazy, hopefully I'll get to keep you up to date. I love pop art and I love all things neon, unfortunately combined it's not the hottest combo but it's still quite nice. I might try to do something better another time.

Ok first things first the neon glitter over mint green is messed up, it worked last time cause the base wasn't so pink but it is and neon glitter (with mild pink base) over mint green looks grey. And it's gross. So never again. Also it was bubble city and super thick. But I really the pop art elements painted, I just love the polka dot effect thing, that's ma fav. Pop art is just so awesome, and I quite like the Christmas colours over the neon but the grey base is something I am not a fan of. But no matter what neon glitter is simply beautiful.

The white turned yellow over the green once I added topcoat, it was weird I'm not sure what happened. I really like the Jinx polka dots and by the way all the colours in this manicure are much brighter in real life. I did my normal painting style, with pens and toothpicks and polish brushes.

Bright Jade: Barry M - Greenberry
Shimmery Red: OPI - Jinx
Green: Rimmel - Block Your Green!
Red: M&S - Poppy
Black: Lovely Me:Ex - Black
White: Lovely Me:Ex - White and Barry M - Matt White
Neon glitter and base: Lush Lacquer (or Polish Me Silly) - Clowning Around and China Glaze - Re-Fresh Mint

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a lovely day!! :)

31DC2013: Day 11 - Polka Dot Nails

Hello there guys!! We're onto polka dots today, I wanted to do some 3D polka dots which I saw at Chelsea Queen's instagram. I thought it looked awesome but lacking that bit of substance I like, I had a mildly crazy idea and I decided to roll with it.

I call them pop art polka dots, I adore the pop art style SO MUCH and I'm slightly sad that it's been not used to full potential here. That changed today. I simply painted some explosions then did the polka dots over them. I didn't purposely do the pop art theme, but I'm happy it turned out that way. 3D polka dots look so cool and they are so easy to do!
So yes I am very much enjoying this manicure, I didn't think I could come up with something substantial for polka dots but one constant with polka dots is that they are cute. I am onboard with that and if they look this cool, I now have more respect for polka dots.

The neon is still happening at PlumeriaPainted (who cares about being season appropriate, obviously not me), I had to try Beach Party by itself and I just love it. I love all the neons and clearly I need all the neons. I'll be writing a full post on Beach Party soon, expect glowing things about it.
I toothpicked the explosions and used bobby pins for the dots. I'm also glad I managed to space the dots out right, I have made the dots not spaced out right before many a time.

Orange: Models Own - Beach Party
White: Barry M - Matt White
Black: Rimmel - Black Pearl
Red: Essie - E-Nuff Is E-Nuff
Green: Max Factor - Cool Jade
Purple: Illamasqua - Jo'Mina

Thank you very much for reading and I hope you have a great day!! :)

My Top 10 Favourite Nail Art Of This Blogging Year :D

Hello there you fantastic, extraordinary, amazing people!!!

Happy blogaversary to me, happy blogaversary to me, happy blogaversary to me, happy blogaversary to ME!! If you couldn't tell, today is my blogaversary. Frankly I find this crazy, it's been a year since I started this blog (also coincidentally my 222nd post). I really didn't know if I'd continue after a month since the internet in general confuses me, but I persisted to find my love of blogging. I'm also proud of my update schedule, I don't post everyday but I personally think I maintain a high amount of posts each month (well not currently due to exams).
This is my little haven where I can write any and everything about nail polish/nail art. It's perfect. In real life, if I was crazy obsessed nail polish girl. 1. Everyone would be creeped out and confused (I know a lot about nail polish) 2. No one would care, which makes me sad :( (not really haha). But here I can go as crazy as I want, mention every little detail and I'm not judged and (maybe) people find it interesting :) Which is the bomb (in a good way).
I may not have the most followers in the world (and that could definitely change in the future, imma still growing and finding ways to grow :)) but anyone who has followed, commented, played ANY part in Plumeria19 has meant SO MUCH to me. The comments I receive are the best things ever, they really make my day and more, e.g. today wasn't my greatest day, it's like these 2 guys were doing everything to try and ruin my day. But I remember my blogaversary and all you lovely people and I completely forget about all that. I am truly thankful for it all. And I promise every time someone follows this blog I do a raving happy dance (rave arms and everything). Every time. I really love the nail blogging community. Come on lovely people who only talk about nail polish/nail art, who can't love that? :)

Look at my first collage, isn't it spiffy? ;)
This time last year I started the 31 day challenge, but unfortunately things are too insane for me to do that right now but instead, in celebration I've decided to compile my favourite nail art of this year (also because I love lists). I know people normally do this at the end of the year, but I wanted to include a year's worth of designs. This blog is primarily freehand nail art, so duh I'll be showcasing my favourite nail art!! :D

10. Pastel Gradient Leopard Print. Because I couldn't not have leopard print in here. I did a legit gradient too (rare occasion), and combined makes number 10.

9. Geometric meets floral. I entered this into a contest (and lost, which I didn't really mind :)), and I found my love of geometric. Combine that with all the colours, it's a wonderful thing.

8. Rainbow Geometric Cupcake. This design basically combines all of my favourite nail art things, food, my favourite colour combination, an awesome glitter and triangles. 'Nuff said really.

7. Tigger. My 2nd ever blog post (so the photography is not so hot) and also my most popular post. The little Tigger is pretty adorable and my mum even approved of it (which is extremely rare).

6. Pop Art Cupid's Arrow. Within the post I explained I was extremely inspired by Professionaldq (who's pop art design I fell in love with), after using her tutorial I did the design again and changed it up, added the heart about to be shot by the arrows (but not that graphic). But this is how I realised I adore pop art (the uniform dots and how in your face it is), so props to her :)

5. Delicate Flowers + Gradient. My best floral nail art to date (in my opinion), the delicacy and the bombin' gradient. Finally my love of flowers being shown through nail art.

4. Ice Cream. I LOVE the colours used. I LOVE ice cream. I LOVE food nail art. I LOVE geometric. So I LOVE this design.

3. Rilakkuma. I didn't know the greatness of this bear. He's too adorable, and having him on my nails was so fun.

2. Paddington Bear. Oh hello another bear, coincidentally I use Baker Street as an accent in my top 2. Paddington Bear is number 2 because I am so happy with how I executed him. Having him as an accent was more than enough as I felt I was precise with his features.

1. Mario!! And here we are, number 1. My main man Mario who can make a mani (unintentional alliteration, love it). I am a massive Nintendo geek and this made me unbelievably cheerful having him on my nails. It's Mario (whom I think I painted well), Mario is awesome (I really have to get round to doing all the other characters).

So that's my favourite nail art of this year, I hope you enjoyed this post as I sure enjoyed writing it. Hopefully this next year will be filled with lots more nail art, new features and general improvement in everything. Thank you so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so much for reading this post or any post on Plumeria19 over the past year. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! :D Have a brilliant day!!!

Love-ly Nail Art Challenge - Favourite Valentine Tutorial

Hey there guys!!! I hope you are all well this fine day, I once again have to say the weather was lovely today and that permitted me to takes pictures slightly later than usual. This is the final day of the challenge and it made February race (but I did anticipate that).

I knew which tutorial from the very beginning of the challenge, it was probably the tipping point to me doing the challenge, as for some days I wouldn't know what to do (but I'm glad I gave it a try cause I tried some different things out). It's the "MWAH" kisses tutorial by Professionaldq, I love her style, she gets me :P Her pop art designs are amazing, I know my last challenge design was pop art but I can't get enough pop art.

I didn't want a stark white background, but that completely changed the design in the process, I couldn't do the dots (my favourite part of pop art) so I was kind of bummed. But it's pop art, therefore I obviously like it :P I think this looks better in real life. I have to say I always misjudge the space the words will take up, I always end up with a bit of the word chopped off. Clearly I also chopped my nails (wow that sounds violent), but I need to play the guitar properly in a few days but I'm trying to hate on them :P
Base: Nails Inc - Sweets Way
White: Models Own - Snow White and Lovely Me:Ex - White
Red: OPI - Dutch Tulips
Pink: Nails Inc - Notting Hill Gate
Black: Lovely Me:Ex - Black
I have to say I have really enjoyed this challenge, I do like me a good valentine cliche but it was lovely (;)). I want to thank Samantha from The Manicure Hut for hosting this challenge. It was a lot of fun!!

Thank you for reading and have a truly lovely day!!! :) (Of course check out everyone else doing the challenge :P).

Love-ly Nail Art Challenge - Cupid's Arrows

Hello there guys!! Hallelujah for the weekend, am I right? I hope you are all relaxing and chilling, sorry to bring up work but I have given myself a lot for tomorrow :/ Oh well we worry about that later :P

It's the second last task :( This has been really fun. I was completely stuck for Cupid's arrow, it was the one I was not looking forward to, actually Cupid scares me. A baby that fires arrows? Ok then. But after some thought and thinking about pop art I thought I'd combine it in. I thought before I painted and it works, reasons to think in general ;)

I love pop art, I took a lot of inspiration from Professionaldq's tutorial, but I still think it's quite different... Of course I had to add some sort of cartoon, the idea was the "WHAM"was sending arrows through the heart (which ended up at a different angle...). I don't really know who'd be that happy with an arrow through them, but it's a cartoon heart.
Red: OPI - Dutch Tulips
Green: Illamasqua - Nomad
White: Models Own - Snow WhiteGorgeous - French Manicure White (no name) and Lovely Me:Ex - White
Black: Lovely Me:Ex - Black
Purple: Essie - Lilacism
I wanted to write "WHAM" cause of Orange Coloured Sky by Michael Buble (such a good song, though not originally by him, Michael Buble is amazing). "Flash, bam, alakazam, wonderful you walked by". His new album is going to come out and I am excitement. Ok sorry to add more but my iPod is on shuffle and Orange Coloured Sky just started playing (I love coincidences like that :)).

Thank you for reading, have a lovely day and check out everyone else doing the challenge :)

Give Peas A Chance!

Hey there, I had a lovely day today and I hope you did too :) I love been loving food designs (clearly, just take a look through last month's posts) and once again mildy stuck with what to do. But I saw my top lying around and I thought "I'm going to base my nail art on that" which I did.

This is a phrase that goes back with me. 4 years ago I drew a bookmark with this phrase (I saw a picture somewhere) and my friends saw this bookmark and thought it was cute. I have since made more of that kind of bookmark, but during the summer I lost my favourite one and that was quite annoying. Well flash forward to around Christmas time last year. I was shopping with 2 of my best friends and we were in TK Maxx (where it's at) looking around the pyjama section and found a "Give peas a chance" top, my best friend told me I had to get it, and the deal was done. I'm not the proudest of my design, it's just not as cute as well thought out as I would've liked it to be. But I like all of colours, the writing and the crazy dots.
Green: Illamasqua - Nomad
Black: Lovely Me:Ex - Black
White: Lovely Me:Ex - White
Pink: No7 - Me! Me! Me!
Blue: The Face Shop - GR501
Yellow: Rimmel - Sunshine
Isn't "peas" what it's all about? :P

The top in question
I have a couple of bookmarks like this, I like sewing around the edges

Have a wonderful day and thank you for reading!!! :)

"I Love Milk" Pop Art

Hi there, I hope you are all doing well. I must've caught some kind of pop art bug as it's all I want to do. I mentioned in my new year's eve post (it's a rambly post that really incapsulates my makeshift ways ;)) that whilst rummaging I found a comb that says "I love milk" and it was SO cute that I had to do nail art of it.

:O It's SO cute!!! I'm an absolute sucker for anything cute so this speaks to me. But people who've seen these nails think I'm obsessed with milk or something but I just laughed it off. I'm not exactly sure it's pop art, it was intended to be but didn't really turn out the way I wanted it to. It was those dots, they needed more space :/ Oh and I made this manicure matte.
Base: Models Own - Snow White, No7 - Snowflake and OPI - Last Friday Night (2 thin, 1 thick coat)
White: Lovely Me:Ex - White
Blue: Nails Inc - Baker Street
Pink: Orly - Basket Case
Black: Lovely Me:Ex - Black
I was meant to have a paler base and Barry M Blueberry Ice Cream for the dots, but unfortunately I went overkill with the glitter and the base got too dark. I think Blueberry Ice Cream would've looked nicer (I painted over it by the way, I also tried The Face Shop BL601 which was too light) but Baker Street is obviously a suitable replacement. I love the combination of pink, white and blue, just saying.

The comb that inspired this manicure, I've never going to actually use it as a comb but it's a nice thing to find in your cupboard.

Thank you very much for reading and have a lovely day!!! :)

Pop Art Nails

Hey there, I've been a bit stuck with my nails lately, I have a long list of ideas but I never seem to be in the mood for any of them. I'll just have to wait until I am :/ But I wanted to paint something "edgy", I was so stuck I looked around other blogs for inspiration, I settled with a pop art design from Kayla Shevonne. She used a tutorial from Professionaldq whom I'd never heard of but she has some really cute pop art nails and I will definitely be using her tutorials in the future (or maybe just the pictures :)).

I wanted to do this nail art design for the colour scheme alone. I love it. And after this manicure I absolutely adore the look of pop art, especially the dots. I've done a pop art design before and I really liked it, but I haven't gone back til now. I just love the way it looks, I think it's fantastic (pop art, no narcissism intended) and I need more pop art in my life.
Red: OPI - Dutch Tulips
Yellow: Barry M - Lemon Ice Cream
Blue: Barry M - Blueberry Ice Cream
White: Models Own - Snow White and No7 - Snowflake (as base) and Lovely Me:Ex - White
Black: Lovely Me:Ex - Black
And I made it matte which made me love it more. I'll confess, I haven't used topcoat properly for 6 months. Yep you read that right, 6 months. I used to be the girl who needed topcoat for everything, but then I grew to hate topcoat (it was a bad time). Simply because it always smudged and smeared my nail art (I would wait days before putting on topcoat and it still smeared :/), my previous pop nail design is a prime example. So to stop my nail art from getting messed I stopped using topcoat. The reason I'm coming back to topcoat though (not only because of matte nails) is because at Christmas my friends got me some rapid dry. I was a bit wary and decided the proof would be if after using the rapid dry the design wouldn't smudge after topcoat. And result... SUCCESS!!!! As also proven by the picture, obviously I will be doing more testing and dipping toes back into topcoat territory, but I think it's looking good. Um topcoat ramble?

I wanted to used a different colour scheme on my right hand, which I think is ok. But could use some revising. I'm growing to like Basket Case a lot.
Pink: Orly - Basket Case
Light Blue: Revlon - Blue Lagoon
Dark Blue: Kiko - 265
Peachy/Orange: Essie - Tart Deco
Black: Lovely Me:Ex - Black
White: Lovely Me:Ex - White

Thank you very much for reading and have a wonderful day!!!

31 Day Challenge - Day 27 - Inspired by artwork

Also inspired by my need to use OPI Charged Up Cherry, it's pretty new and it's so pretty I had to try it. I love hot pink. Charged Up Cherry keeps making me think of "Pumped Up Kicks" by Foster the People. "All the other kids with their um charged up cherries, you better berry, better berry, outrun my cherry" :L These things come to my head. I thought about using standard comic book colours like red, yellow and blue but I thought pink would look just as cute :)

This is inspired by pop art, specifically pop art in comic books. I love how it's so cool and cute. It's just SO funky. Also I love Charged Up Cherry, I put it on and automatically it became one of my favourites. It's bright and pretty. I'm proud of how neatly I wrote the words with my left hand (I'm right handed). It did take utmost care and precision though.

(The pink didn't really show up true to colour, I tried all different kinds of lighting but it always looked too orange, so I left it)

This is my left hand, I preferred it on my right hand as the dots just looked better, my white nail polishes were really "stringy". If you know what I mean. When the little strings of nail polish drag everywhere. But that doesn't mean I don't like it on my left hand. I do :)

Colours used:
Hot Pink: OPI - Charged Up Cherry
White: Natural Collection - White (no name), Sally Hansen - French White Tip and No7 - Snowflake
Black: Lovely Me:Ex - Black (no name)

Equipment used:
Bobby pins
Toothpicks
