And then POP (art) goes my heart!!

Hello there you fantastic person!! I don't know if you get the title reference, it's from the movie "Music and Lyrics" that I watched AGES ago and didn't even finish. I do hope to finish it, I love a good chick flick. And on the note of chick flicks, and romance, here's my first Valentine's Day design (most awkward segue ever?). Everyone else seemed to be doing these designs last month but hahahaha as usual I'm late. Well Valentine's Day itself isn't late, but I have more Valentine's designs to come :/ But this design combines neon and pop art, 2 of my favourite things, obviously it was going to be love (see what I did there?).

Yep a pop art design with all my neons. It's a beautiful thing. My ring finger was inspired by Finger Painted then I went mental. From the pop art hearts to the explosions to the neon glitter. Neons make me unbelievably happy and all the colours... ^_^ I love those pop art dots in general and the whole design I feel comes together in a weird way.

I used my standard bobby pins, toothpicks and nail polish brushes for this look. I dabbed/brushed on Clowning Around, a bit hard to get an even distribution especially of all the glitter colours. But worth it in the end.

White: Barry M - Matt White
Neon Glitter: Lush Lacquer - Clowning Around
Yes this polish continues to bleed :'( but that can't stop it's beauty. I don't think anything can.
Pink: Nails Inc - Notting Hill Gate
Light Pink: Barry M - Superdrug Summer 2013 A
Orange: Models Own - Beach Party
Green: China Glaze - I'm With The Lifeguard
Blue: Nails Inc - Baker Street
Black: Lovely Me:Ex - Black

Thank you very much for reading and I hope you have a lovely (;)) Valentine's day!! :)

Neon + Christmas Pop Art

Hello there fine folks!! The week is winding down and it's almost Christmas!!! :D :D :D I never knew December would be so crazy, hopefully I'll get to keep you up to date. I love pop art and I love all things neon, unfortunately combined it's not the hottest combo but it's still quite nice. I might try to do something better another time.

Ok first things first the neon glitter over mint green is messed up, it worked last time cause the base wasn't so pink but it is and neon glitter (with mild pink base) over mint green looks grey. And it's gross. So never again. Also it was bubble city and super thick. But I really the pop art elements painted, I just love the polka dot effect thing, that's ma fav. Pop art is just so awesome, and I quite like the Christmas colours over the neon but the grey base is something I am not a fan of. But no matter what neon glitter is simply beautiful.

The white turned yellow over the green once I added topcoat, it was weird I'm not sure what happened. I really like the Jinx polka dots and by the way all the colours in this manicure are much brighter in real life. I did my normal painting style, with pens and toothpicks and polish brushes.

Bright Jade: Barry M - Greenberry
Shimmery Red: OPI - Jinx
Green: Rimmel - Block Your Green!
Red: M&S - Poppy
Black: Lovely Me:Ex - Black
White: Lovely Me:Ex - White and Barry M - Matt White
Neon glitter and base: Lush Lacquer (or Polish Me Silly) - Clowning Around and China Glaze - Re-Fresh Mint

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a lovely day!! :)

Pop Out Nails

Hi there everyone!! I hope you are enjoying this lovely Sunday. I miss painting and blogging more frequently, but hopefully I will be getting back on the bandwagon very soon (very soon being tomorrow!!! Once again hopefully). I have been seeing these nails EVERYWHERE, and I wasn't sure if I liked it at first but once I saw it more I warmed to it. Unfortunately my attempt wasn't so great, I might try it again one of these days.

I think it's quite a me design, but the execution wasn't so great. I don't know what it was, maybe the border was too thick or the shine wasn't painted right, but the great thing is it looks WAY better in pictures and I'll take it :P
Another thing I don't like, borders. I think I need to give them a bit more time.  To add a bit of interest to the design I added I Lily Love You, it looks awesome matte, I should've put on another coat of it.
Personally I think the shine looks like exclamation marks, I don't think it's just me (unless it is :'().
The base of this I did a post in the earlier days of my blog, check it out if you please, I think my photography is better now but that's debatable ;)
Pink: The Face Shop - PK105 and OPI - I Lily Love You
Black: Lovely Me:Ex - Black
White: Lovely Me:Ex - White
I used 3 coats of PK105 to remove visible nail line and 2 coat of I Lily Love You which I should've used more of. I freehanded the border with a pen which is why it's not very even.

Thank you very reading and have a wonderful day!! :)

"I Love Milk" Pop Art

Hi there, I hope you are all doing well. I must've caught some kind of pop art bug as it's all I want to do. I mentioned in my new year's eve post (it's a rambly post that really incapsulates my makeshift ways ;)) that whilst rummaging I found a comb that says "I love milk" and it was SO cute that I had to do nail art of it.

:O It's SO cute!!! I'm an absolute sucker for anything cute so this speaks to me. But people who've seen these nails think I'm obsessed with milk or something but I just laughed it off. I'm not exactly sure it's pop art, it was intended to be but didn't really turn out the way I wanted it to. It was those dots, they needed more space :/ Oh and I made this manicure matte.
Base: Models Own - Snow White, No7 - Snowflake and OPI - Last Friday Night (2 thin, 1 thick coat)
White: Lovely Me:Ex - White
Blue: Nails Inc - Baker Street
Pink: Orly - Basket Case
Black: Lovely Me:Ex - Black
I was meant to have a paler base and Barry M Blueberry Ice Cream for the dots, but unfortunately I went overkill with the glitter and the base got too dark. I think Blueberry Ice Cream would've looked nicer (I painted over it by the way, I also tried The Face Shop BL601 which was too light) but Baker Street is obviously a suitable replacement. I love the combination of pink, white and blue, just saying.

The comb that inspired this manicure, I've never going to actually use it as a comb but it's a nice thing to find in your cupboard.

Thank you very much for reading and have a lovely day!!! :)

Pop Art Nails

Hey there, I've been a bit stuck with my nails lately, I have a long list of ideas but I never seem to be in the mood for any of them. I'll just have to wait until I am :/ But I wanted to paint something "edgy", I was so stuck I looked around other blogs for inspiration, I settled with a pop art design from Kayla Shevonne. She used a tutorial from Professionaldq whom I'd never heard of but she has some really cute pop art nails and I will definitely be using her tutorials in the future (or maybe just the pictures :)).

I wanted to do this nail art design for the colour scheme alone. I love it. And after this manicure I absolutely adore the look of pop art, especially the dots. I've done a pop art design before and I really liked it, but I haven't gone back til now. I just love the way it looks, I think it's fantastic (pop art, no narcissism intended) and I need more pop art in my life.
Red: OPI - Dutch Tulips
Yellow: Barry M - Lemon Ice Cream
Blue: Barry M - Blueberry Ice Cream
White: Models Own - Snow White and No7 - Snowflake (as base) and Lovely Me:Ex - White
Black: Lovely Me:Ex - Black
And I made it matte which made me love it more. I'll confess, I haven't used topcoat properly for 6 months. Yep you read that right, 6 months. I used to be the girl who needed topcoat for everything, but then I grew to hate topcoat (it was a bad time). Simply because it always smudged and smeared my nail art (I would wait days before putting on topcoat and it still smeared :/), my previous pop nail design is a prime example. So to stop my nail art from getting messed I stopped using topcoat. The reason I'm coming back to topcoat though (not only because of matte nails) is because at Christmas my friends got me some rapid dry. I was a bit wary and decided the proof would be if after using the rapid dry the design wouldn't smudge after topcoat. And result... SUCCESS!!!! As also proven by the picture, obviously I will be doing more testing and dipping toes back into topcoat territory, but I think it's looking good. Um topcoat ramble?

I wanted to used a different colour scheme on my right hand, which I think is ok. But could use some revising. I'm growing to like Basket Case a lot.
Pink: Orly - Basket Case
Light Blue: Revlon - Blue Lagoon
Dark Blue: Kiko - 265
Peachy/Orange: Essie - Tart Deco
Black: Lovely Me:Ex - Black
White: Lovely Me:Ex - White

Thank you very much for reading and have a wonderful day!!!

31 Day Challenge - Day 27 - Inspired by artwork

Also inspired by my need to use OPI Charged Up Cherry, it's pretty new and it's so pretty I had to try it. I love hot pink. Charged Up Cherry keeps making me think of "Pumped Up Kicks" by Foster the People. "All the other kids with their um charged up cherries, you better berry, better berry, outrun my cherry" :L These things come to my head. I thought about using standard comic book colours like red, yellow and blue but I thought pink would look just as cute :)

This is inspired by pop art, specifically pop art in comic books. I love how it's so cool and cute. It's just SO funky. Also I love Charged Up Cherry, I put it on and automatically it became one of my favourites. It's bright and pretty. I'm proud of how neatly I wrote the words with my left hand (I'm right handed). It did take utmost care and precision though.

(The pink didn't really show up true to colour, I tried all different kinds of lighting but it always looked too orange, so I left it)

This is my left hand, I preferred it on my right hand as the dots just looked better, my white nail polishes were really "stringy". If you know what I mean. When the little strings of nail polish drag everywhere. But that doesn't mean I don't like it on my left hand. I do :)

Colours used:
Hot Pink: OPI - Charged Up Cherry
White: Natural Collection - White (no name), Sally Hansen - French White Tip and No7 - Snowflake
Black: Lovely Me:Ex - Black (no name)

Equipment used:
Bobby pins
Toothpicks
